The world famous Reading Carriage Sales have been in operation for over 40 years. There are now four sales annually in Reading with additional private sales during the year.

Thimbleby & Shorland have been asked to conduct important dispersal or reduction sales on behalf of private clients, at their premises including recently on behalf of the late Bob Gardner, Norman Brown, and the late Les Oakes.

Over the years, carriages, sets of harness, sundry accoutrements and anything related to the art of carriage driving have been bought and sold by clients around the globe providing an important meeting place for driving and equestrian enthusiasts, as well as for those looking to buy and sell their items.

Sales are held monthly on Saturdays at 9.30 a.m. at Reading Auction Market. Large sections include items sold by order of HM Revenue & Customs, County Courts, the Official Receiver, Liquidators and the Enforcement Office.

Items for sale usually include:

  • Period & antique furniture, silver, ceramics & jewellery
  • All kinds of household furniture & effects including bedroom, dining & reception furniture, ceramics, prints and other items
  • Office Furniture including desks, tables, chairs, filing cabinets and storage cupboards
  • All types of computers, printers, copiers, fax machines as well as other equipment and peripherals. Test facilities available
  • Bedding plants, shrubs, planted containers, trees etc
  • Motor Vehicles, small tools & machinery and garden equipment

Coming up in Horses & Ponies

Horses & Ponies News

We hold monthly horse sales on the first Friday of the month at 10.30 a.m. at Reading Auction Market. Sections include Horses, Ponies and Saddlery.

There are sections for saddlery and riding items as well as the horses and ponies themselves.

There are three warranties at Reading Horse Sales and these are Quiet to Ride, Quiet to Drive and Good Hunter. A warranted horse must be fully shod and sound in eye, heart, wind and action and it is the choice of the vendor to place the warranty.

Any purchaser of a warranted animal has until the following Monday at noon to try, test and vet, and if necessary, return the horse.

For Sale By Private Treaty

Thimbleby & Shorland have acted as agents in the valuation and sales of all types of assets for National and Local Insolvency Practitioners for over 25 years, producing inventories and valuations for companies all over the country. We are the agents for The Insolvency Service (The Official Receiver)and cover all the Thames Valley courts.

Immediate attendance is of prime importance and visits are made within 24 hours if possible. We have access to a range of transport firms who can undertake to move anything whatever the size and we have, at our Reading base, room to store assets in the short or long term.

Retention of title claims are dealt with speedily so that free assets can be sold either by Public Auction through one of our sales or sold by Private Treaty.

Assets are advertised nationally and locally as well as being on our website.

These auctions include - Cars and commercials, and often motorcycles, quad bikes and caravans.

Monthly auctions on Saturdays at 11am with vehicles from Receivers, Liquidators, lease companies, bailiffs, dealers and private vendors. Entries accepted up to 9am on sale day morning (MOT obligatory).
