The Complete Chris Nicholson Collection
Christopher Nicholson, 1932 – 2011, had a life-long passion for horse-drawn vehicles. He was fascinated by their social context, from the finest State Carriage to a Wiltshire Hay Wagon. His collection of hand-drawn carriage designs and the large collection of designs from the Coach Builders, Harness Makers and Saddlers Art Journal, plus many pictures, reflects this diversity and passion.
After the family firm of yacht builders, Camper and Nicholson, was sold, Christopher designed and built several types of carriages, twice winning ‘Concours d’Elégance’.
He was a founder member of the British Driving Society and Chairman and founder member of the Carriage Association. With his demand for accuracy on cataloguing, his insistence on proper conservation and his extensive knowledge of the history of carriages, he became the carriage advisor to the National Trust and helped many other museums.
Catalogue will be available towards the end of April and may be downloaded from our website or by post at a cost of £6
