A collection of books mostly dating from 1900 to 1920, many illustrated by either Edmund Dulac or Arthur Rackham, were keenly sought after at Thimbleby & Shorland’s General Sale on Saturday 31st January. All sourced from the same deceased estate, the books had been collected for the quality of the illustrations and today’s buyers were no less admiring of that quality.
The collection of 19 books made a total of £1300 (plus Buyer’s Premium of 12%), the top price being £110 for Stories from Hans Anderson with illustrations by Edmund Dulac, dated 1911. A copy of the first publicly printed edition of T E Lawrence’s Seven Pillars of Wisdom made £100.
The books were in good but used condition, some having hand-written dedications.
