Surveyors were founded in 1901.
Specialising for many years in livestock, horses
and agricultural auctions and land agency, the
firm has diversified over the years and among other
things, is now the leading international specialist
in the sale and valuation of horse-drawn carriages
and related items, hosting the world famous Reading
Carriage Sales.
Thimbleby & Shorland also conduct large auctions
of Contractors Plant and Equipment in Reading and
elsewhere on behalf of clients such as Hewden Plant
Hire, these sales also having an international
following.
The two annual sales of Shetland ponies are the
largest in the country with many of the ponies
being exported to Europe. The regular sales of
heavy horses, farm implements and horse brasses
attract a loyal following from an international
clientele also.
On a regular basis, there are monthly auctions
of horses, ponies and saddlery, antique and household
furniture, office equipment and computers. There
is an annual sale of ground maintenance equipment
and a growing number of auctions of vintage & commercial
vehicles, motor cars, bygones and memorabilia.
Alongside the busy auction side of the business,
there is a flourishing land agency department dealing
with issues such as quota, compulsory purchase
and landlord & tenancy agreements. Thimbleby & Shorland
have acted as agents in the valuation and sales
of all types of assets for national and local Liquidators
and Receivers for over 25 years and are agents
for the Official receiver in Reading and other
local offices.
