2020 was a year like no other in so many ways. This was the year the nation discovered Zoom, clapped for carers, witnessed an extraordinary election in the United States, Professor Chris Whitty became a household name and we had our first taste of ‘lockdown’. To say 2020 was an extraordinary year, would be something of an understatement to say the least.
Way back in January, the monthly Antique and Decorative sale got off to a fabulous start with a rare zinc Louis Vuitton trunk selling for £27,000 plus buyer’s premium, and they continued to both surprise and delight vendors with strong results throughout the year. Some of the year’s other sale highlights included an Omega watch (£9,600 +BP), a beautiful diamond ring (£9,400+ BP) and a Zebra wood wing back armchair (£3,100 + BP).
The first national lockdown in March led to an enforced pause in operations, and also gave us the chance to look at different ways of running our sales, so since May, all our sales have been ‘timed online only’. All invoices can now be paid online, and we have introduced a ‘click and collect’ service for all purchases. We are also happy to offer an ‘in house’ post and packing
service for all of our smaller lots.
In November, the Jewellery sale heralded the introduction of our first ‘specialist’ sale, which proved a huge success, and included the sale of a stunning diamond ring for £11,500 + B.P.
Looking forward to 2021 we already have more specialist sales in the pipeline, including a Toy sale and a Spring Jewellery sale, as well as our normal calendar of monthly Antique sales and General Sales. We offer ‘remote’ viewings for all of our Lots, with video calls via WhatsApp and Zoom, and are happy to provide photos and videos in conjunction with traditional condition
We hope that 2021 will lead to something of a return to normality, but until then, we hope you all keep safe and well. Keep on keeping on!
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year from us all at Thimbleby and Shorland.
