Lot 1239 - 26 publications of the American magazine
The Rider and Driver dated 1928 bound into
one large volume. Each magazine contains
show editorials, adverts, etc. for all things
equestrian. Editions contained are -
Jan 7/21; Feb 4/18; Mar 3/17/31;
Apr 14/28; May 12/26; June 9/23;
July 7/21; Aug 4/18; Sept 1/15/29;
Oct 13/27; Nov 10/24 and Dec 8/22
Lot 1243 - A very rare Markham’s Masterpiece, by
Gervase Markham, dated 1662. “Containing
all knowledge belonging to a Smith, Farrier or
Horse Leech, touching the curing of all
diseases in horses”. There are two books
within this one volume. The first title page
and pages 1 to 3 missing, and pages 23-26
are damaged. The Second Book, at page
233, contains the title page and date of
1662. An interesting and delicate book on
Farriery and Veterinary skills from the time of
Charles II. 19thC half leather binding with
several woodcut illustrations in the text.
