The last Antique sale of the year, held on the 3rd of December, saw one of our more unusual catalogues of the year, and included Lots from the Estate of Dame Mary Quant, a vintage VW camper van and a hugely eclectic range of smaller items. With interest from all over the World, the sale did not disappoint, with strong bidding across all areas of the sale.
The undoubted star of the show proved to be a Breitling for Bentley 18ct gold gents wrist watch, complete with box and paperwork, which sold for £6600 plus Buyer’s Premium.
We had a good collection of garden furniture and ornaments entered into the sale, including a stunning cast iron bench which sold for £3250, and a magnificent pair of terracotta urns on plinths which fetched £1160. This was particularly satisfying for our collections team, as they were extremely heavy and had proved to be a significant challenge to all concerned.
The smaller, and thankfully lighter items in the sale did not disappoint though, with a carved marble bust selling for £920 and a Jacques & Son chess set finally selling for £820.
There is often a surprise in our sales, and this month it was the turn of a Royal Chelsea Golden Rose part dinner service, which after a lot of interest sold for an eye watering £3350.
One of our favourite items in the sale was an Elkington silver plate shell dish, which sold for a modest £50. Beautiful quality, it will look stunning on a table for Christmas.
Going forward, we have a Toy and Games sale running over the Christmas period, and of course our normal series of monthly Antique & Collectable sales in the New Year. We also hope to be bringing some live sales back soon, so keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.
All that remains is to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
