Reading Auctioneers Thimbleby & Shorland have been asked to offer for sale by auction a 1927 biscuit tin in the form of the FA Cup.  Made of aluminium, the tin was commissioned by the world famous Reading-based biscuit makers during Reading FC’s sensational FA Cup run in the 1926-27 season, when they reached the semi-finals.  Unfortunately they were beaten 3-0 by Cardiff City so did not make it to the final, and the demand for the tins then waned.

A few examples still exist however, 90 years on.  There is one in the Reading Museum, although it may not include the original biscuits, which this one does!  Owned by a Reading family, the tin was sadly slightly damaged when they recently moved house, so it does not stand quite square on its base.

The tin will be offered for sale at the company’s up-coming sale at the Reading Auction Centre, Great Knollys Street, on Saturday the 23rd September.  For further information please contact the Auctioneers on 0118 950 8611.
